January 1998
. . .
The new year began with the Clan Hot Wheels Race. It was held at the "Keep". Guests were Bob and Carol Dixon fom North Carolina and Chuck Lachey from Tipp City, Ohio. The winners were: 1st place, Jay; 2nd place, Cliff and 3rd place, Shari. Since this was a time of a big snow, several cars and trucks were stranded at Mrs. Snow's hill on Brush Creek Road but later were reclaimed. Uncle Curly Seitz was moved to Dayton Hospice and on Jan. 12th he died. Mombo, John, Joan, Jeanne with Clay, Cole and Clint attended the funeral. Jerome and Janet made it to the funeral home. Clay Hellyer was recuperatiing from a football hip injury. Brendan made a 35 on his ACT (perfect score 36). Science and Reading perfect, Math 32, English 34. (in the 99 percentile). Terrible ice storms in the East, Sonny Bono died in a skiing accident, Clinton/Lewinsky scandle broke, Denver Broncos beat Green Bay packers in the Superbowl, and the Pope was in Cuba. Joshua got his drivers license and Razor was healing after a bout with a coon.

February 1998
. . . On the 4th the big snow arrived. 8-10 inches and up to 12 inches. Jeff used the backhoe to remove a tree and partially clear Blue Bank. Electricity went off. Jay and Shari made it to Danville but had a hard time getting back home because of stranded cars and trucks blocking the roads. Clan had their generators going. Measured 18 to 20 inches on table up on the deck. Officially Liberty had 24 inches. Casey and Boyle Counties in emergency. The whole state of Kentucky was in trouble, the interstates were blocked , many cars and trucks stranded. The National Guard was in active service. Mombo went to California with Uncle Art on the 12th. Had nice visit with family including Aunt Dede and Uncle Joe Sullivan. Had lots of rain and bad mud slides while there. Spent time with Aunt Esther (age 90) in her home for she was moving to live with her son Jerry and family after we left. Watched a lot of the Olympics. Back home on March 3rd.

March 1998
. . . Rita and Alyx in monologue program at Norton Center and Rita was on the All-star team in baskeball tourney. John and Dana's Ouinki died. Kansas blew Mombo out of the Ad-Mart NCAA basketball pool. Cole and Clint had the chicken pox. Susan went to dedication of the new Catholic Church in Tipp City. UK beat Duke to be in the final four. (Hurray) UK beat Stanford - Utah beat N.C. and UK beat Utah in finals. All were happy for Tubby Smith's 1st season.

April 1998
. . . Nicholas saw the play "Big" in Louisville and playing guard on the 8th grade basketball team, he got the academic award plus most steals, most assists and got 110 rebounds this year. Yorkie "Bonni" had two males, caesarean, one died and due to complications she died. Janet bottlefed the remaining baby, "Winston". Alyx, Rita, Nicholas, Holly and Josh were all on the track team. There were terrible tornadoes in Georgia and Alabama - many deaths and much damage. Josh got glasses. Brendan was interviewed for the local paper for "Views of Future of Madison County" and also made a trip to New York. The Hellyers revealed at the Spring Hurray Day meeting their surprising news that they were moving to Danville. Rita and Nicholas did well in the Lake Cumberland track classic. Jerusha went to State in Word Processing. Jerusha and Alyx lost a good friend, Andy Dean, in an auto accident.

May 1998
. . . Jerusha graduated and had an open house celebration. She and Clay Sweeney went to the prom. "Real Quiet" was the Kentucky Derby winner. Kristi, Tim, Jerusha, Clay and Alyx went to the Garth Brooks special in Lexington. Mombo fell in the asparagus patch and re-injured her right shoulder. This was Jerusha and Joshua's final year in the Show Choir which we all enjoyed watching. Jerome, Janet and friends had their Memorial Day weekend campout at the farm. Frank Sinatra (age 82) died.

June 1998
. . . Hayley loved playing baseball at Gateway Park. John and Dana got Walie, a new Yorkie. Boo's (Clay) "Miracle" chicken now lives at the farm with the other chickens. Uncle Jack turned 70. Joshua, now 17, enjoying his truck was hit by a lady in Danville, it was totaled. Susan and Rita made a trip to Washington D.C.. Mombo went with Joan and children to Jacksonville, Florida for a vacation. This was at the time of the forest fires in Florida so some days were smokey. Also they spent some days with the Hellyer Clan on Kiawah Beach where they were vacationing. Janet had a surprise birthday party for Jerome in their newly acquired Landon Lane home. John and Dana painted the walls and kitchen floor in the Hall. Much appreciated was help from Joan, Brendan, Ian and Caitlan. Brendan attended the Governor's Scholars program at Centre College.

July 1998
. . . Many of the Clan went to Jerome and Janet's to see the July 4th fireworks. The Hellyer clan moved to Gose Pike in Danville. Bulldozer work was done on the creek and Greystone road. "Otis" the Keep's dachshund was bitten by a snake and died on the 12th. Sections of Brush Creek Road have been blacktopped and chip and sealed. Darby Harris and Jay Knauer visited at the farm. The 10th Seitz Reunion was held at Eagles Park in Tipp City on July 25th . A good turnout, 67 total. The Clan girls enjoyed a weekend slumber party at Rachel's in Lexington. Hay fields at the farm were cut and baled by Tommy Morgan. A very large hornet nest was discovered in a maple tree in the front yard.

August 1998
. . . Josh started work at Long John Silver in Danville. "Kita", the Labrador pup, chasing cars with Ru and Ug, was hit by the mailman. Sadly, she had a serious hip injury. Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton (5 hours) testified before the Starr Grand Jury. Clinton admitted his wrong doing to the country, hitting on Starr, the special prosecutor. Many in the Clan enjoyed Caitlan's (now 14) "Birthday Bash." Jerusha started classes at Somerset Community College. Two U.S. Embassies in Africa were bombed by terrorists, in Kenya and Tanzania. St. Mark's in Richmond had the dedication of their new church. There was a big stock market drop this month - 400 points.

September 1998
. . . A Swiss Airline departing New York crashed off Nova Scotia. Shari hit a deer on Upper Brush at 4:30 a.m. on her way to work. Starr report arrived at the House of Representatives and was released to the public. John went on a fishing trip with Bill Barefoot. He had a real good catch. It was an exciting season for the Cubs, they made it to the playoffs. McGuire and Sosa broke the Maris record in home runs. Sosa (Cubs) 66 and McGuire (Cards) 70. Rita, Nicholas and Holly had great basketball seasons.

October 1998
. . . James, Susan and children went to North Carolina to get a new puppy, part wolf , part German shepherd, named her Comanche. Aunt Esther celebrated her 90th birthday. Jerome and Janet went to New Orleans for the Osteopathic National Convention. Jerome received an award. Jay and Shari had their truck trailer broken into. Casey High School football team won their first game in five years. Brendan was a candidate for king for homecoming, was in the parade and went to the game and dance. Work continues on Josh's room upstairs. Alyx made Student of the Week in Algebra 2. New York Yankees won World Series over San Diego Padres. Clan had a big Hurray day weekend with meeting, much clan power work accomplished, halloween party, shoot-out on Peat's Peak and the great Troy-Bilt family photo was taken by John. James and John took a Concealed Weapons program at EKU in Danville. This month was the 5th anniversary of Grandybo's sudden death. Josh was injured in an unexpected attack by a student at McDonalds. He required stitches and teeth repair.

November 1998
. . . Drew had his 5th birthday. Jerusha voted for the first time. Election results changed Casey County leaders to Judge Executive, Ronald Wright and Liberty Mayor, Steve Sweeney. In Minnesota, Jesse Ventura, Reform Party, a former wrestler, became Governor. Work began on Jay and Shari's land, a shop building. Cole celebrated his 6th birthday with a party at Chuckie Cheese. Clint told Grammo, "You should be there. it was awesome." No luck for the clan deer hunters this year. Emily is now 3 years old. Lea went to California with her father to visit her brother. Nicholas celebrated his 15th birthday. Twenty-one clan people enjoyed Thanksgiving at the Hall. Clinton impeachment hearings began

December 1998
. . . Jeanne presented us with the news of her sixth pregnancy. Alyx made a trip to Galt House in Louisville with the Beta Club. Merle, Nicholas' dog, died on the 7th. She had not been well since her stroke. Cliff did the "Impossible". He brought Mombo the surveys and plot sheet from Montgomery on the 9th. Hallelujah! Tommy Weddle prepared an affidavit that the children had to sign and have notarized to take care of the John Dixon Trust that never existed. Clay had his 13th birthday. Mombo got bonds for the grandchildren for Christmas. The House Judiciary passed 3 Articles of Impeachment on the 11th. Clinton decided to bomb Iraq again right before the House vote on impeachment. Jay, Shari Josh, John, Dana, Jerome, Janet, Janet's mother Jeanine and Mombo spent a week on St. Maarten Island in the Carribean at Christmas time. Mombo and Jeanine were with Jerome and Janet at the Royal Islander Hotel. Jay, Shari and Josh stayed at the Maho Beach Club and John and Dana were on the French side at the Les Cottages de Lonvilliers at Anse Marcel. It was a wonderful trip for all. Clan had their Oyster stew night at the Hellyers this year. It was an ineresting year and we are all ready for 1999.
