As graphic design became a more computer-oriented profession, Dixon began making hand-made greeting cards to preserve his manual dexterity. This gave him an opportunity to experiment with letterforms, kept his imagination primed, and inspired greater intuitive spontaneity. Before turning more of his artistic investigation to larger works, he created over a thousand hand-crafted “miniatures” between 1999 and 2003. Most of these experiments took the form of birthday, anniversary, and holiday cards. This near-daily practice established the foundation and direction of his work as a collage artist. He still produces as many as 100 cards a year, many of which rely on “found material.”
